But what about. . .

. . . the new plans NCDOT is coming up with?

Because of the deep concern expressed by Flat Rock residents about the NCDOT plans for the N. Highland Lake Road project (STIP project no. U-5887) as presented at the Oct 17, 2017, public input session, NCDOT decided to develop new plans for the project. Those plans are due to be released in April, but right now all we can go by are the current plans–the only plans that are official.

What does this mean? CLG:Flat Rock is opposed to this project because the project is unnecessary, a waste of taxpayer money, a taking of private property for a nonessential purpose, and will have a damaging effect on future road projects in the village—not because we are hoping NCDOT will minimize the project’s impact. Any changes will affect the character of the road, and with the current road not having safety or traffic capacity issues, we see no justification spending taxpayer money on an unneeded road project.
