From the Times-News: “The N.C. Department of Transportation plans to construct an eight-lane highway from Interstate 40 in Buncombe County to U.S. 25 at Mountain Home, and then a six-lane highway from Mountain Home to Four Seasons Boulevard.
A later project will widen the interstate from there to U.S. 25 South. . .
Under the plan, construction will begin this fall and should continue on from that point for about four or five years until completion, [Wanda Austin, NCDOT] said. . .
Henderson County Commissioner Bill Lapsley pointed out the Interstate 26 widening project will be the largest highway project in Henderson County history in terms of dollars. He said it’s going to take a lot of time and ‘disrupt the community immensely.’
