T-N letter to the editor: Yes to roundabouts

From today’s Times-News letters to the editor:

Yes to roundabouts

To the editor: Roundabouts — many letters to the editor have been against this traffic plan, yet I think there is much to be said in favor. When I drive in Europe, I look forward to going around the circle until I’m sure which exit is the right one for where I want to go.

For even a more enlightened view, Bend, Ore., has turned its roundabout into a tourist draw. Visitbend.com has images of public art in the center of their roundabouts as place-markers or entry ways.

Maybe the one proposed near Laurel Park could be designed as an entry image — if not artwork, then certainly mountain laurels would be an appropriate entry way to Laurel Park from Highway 64.

Take a look at Bend and see potential to enhance the driving experience.

  1. I like roundabouts too. But not when they are unnecessary. Some turning lanes and traffic lights would have sufficed. The desecration at Erkwood-Rutledge is a disgrace.
