From the Times-News letters to the editor:
Character at risk
After retirement almost 10 years ago, my late wife and I chose Flat Rock as our home because of its uniqueness and heritage. The character of our community is at risk by the current Village Council. I urge Flat Rock voters to elect Anne Coletta, Tom Carpenter and David Dethero as our new Village Council representatives.
The current council has attempted to start an unnecessary project of Highland Road renovation that will damage the properties of a church, businesses and homes. The entrance to the Flat Rock Park will be damaged as well. More than 1,000 citizens registered opposition to this effort but were ignored by the current council and mayor.
Attempts to blame Anne Coletta for the costs of the village defense of a flawed sign ordinance is a desperate effort to distract voters from the real issue that is the centerpiece of this election and ignores the First Amendment conflict the ordinance causes. Do we want tax wasted on this unnecessary and destructive change to the entrance to our village?
If you want responsible representation and elected council members who will listen to the citizens of Flat Rock, vote for Carpenter, Coletta and Dethero.
