T-N: Asphalt plant proposed near East Flat Rock; Meeting set for neighbors

From the Times-News:

An asphalt plant has been proposed at the Spartanburg Highway and U.S. 25 interchange near East Flat Rock.

Jeff Shipman of SE Asphalt is asking for the county to conditionally rezone 6.5 acres off Spartanburg Highway to construct a new asphalt drum plant. The land is currently zoned community commercial.

A neighborhood compatibility meeting has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, when the developer will provide an overview of the project and answer questions from nearby property owners. . .

The neighborhood compatibility meeting will be held remotely due to social distancing requirements. The meeting is not a public hearing to allow for open comment, according to the county planning office, but property owners and residents will have the chance to ask questions.

Questions may also be submitted up until the day before the meeting online or by mail addressed to the Planning Department at 100 N. King St., Hendersonville, NC 28792, or by calling the Planning Department at 828-697-4819.

  1. Asphalt Plant? Well, it’s better than a 10 story 300 unit apt/condo. Just say NO to becoming another Asheville!

  2. I’m truly sickened to learn this!! Asphalt has a horrible smell! A asphalt plant will lower property values and decrease quality of life. Noise pollution from stamping plant already impacts peace and tranquility of our home.
