The Cultural Landscape Group:Flat Rock (CLG) supports the Friends of East Flat Rock in their work to protect their community from any damaging impact to their environment and residential neighborhoods due to a re-zoning request to build an asphalt plant on property incompatible for that purpose. The property is currently zoned Community Commercial, and an asphalt plant is “not permissible in the current zoning district,” according to the Henderson County Planning Department.
The current zoning district restrictions were put in place by Henderson County to protect the area and its residents, with area homeowners relying on the current zoning to remain in place. Inappropriate development puts our irreplaceable landscape increasingly at risk, making it all the more important that we work together to protect our cultural landscapes.
