At the December 10 village council meeting, the council voted to accept Ordinance 108. The council had requested that NCDOT look into lowering the speed limit on this section of Greenville Highway several months ago. After studying the traffic in this area, NCDOT agreed to the council’s request to lower the speed limit to 25 mph (down from 35 mph) on Greenville Highway from the Flat Rock Playhouse entrance just north of Little River Road going south to the Woodfield Inn. It will take NCDOT about 30 to 60 days before the signage is switched out to reflect this change.

I approve of lowering the limit to 25 MPH. But being a critical thinking realist I know it won’t have any effect in changing the majority of the driver’s habits. From observation I believe about 85% of the vehicles on most stretches of Greenville Hwy do between 45 & 50 MPH.That’s not going to change.
